There are many Madrid art galleries.  One of the most famous is the Prado art gallery.  You'll find one of the most important art collections in the world there.  Even if you're not knowledgeable about art, you'll still find many extraordinary paintings.  This museum or art gallery has a big collection of classical art and over 30,000 works including drawings, coins, and furniture.  The Prado art gallery has works of great artists such as Goya, Rubens, and Murillo.  The exhibitions may change, so you'll often see different art.  Even though this is a big art gallery, there still isn't enough space for all the art to be displayed at one time.

One of the finest collections of art can be found at the Thyssen Bornemisza art gallery in Madrid.  Some of the exhibitions are temporary, but there's also a permanent collection.  This is a very popular art gallery with more than 700 paintings.  Eight centuries of European paintings make up the collection.  A great feature of the Thyssen Bornemisza art gallery is the rooms are arranged in numeric order.  When you follow the numbers, you get a logical series showing the chronological progress of European art.  This art gallery has guided tours on the weekend for families with children between ages six and 12.

One of the new Madrid art galleries is the CaixaForum.  This is a great gallery for art lovers.  The gallery is located between the Reina Sofia and the Prado and has old, modern, and contemporary art.  There are also music festivals, education programmes, multimedia, and more.  Selections are from the Caixa foundation's collection of more then 700 works.  Most of the work is from the 1980's to the present.  Some of the works are from artists such as Cindy Sherman, Anselm Kiefer, Carlos Amorales, and Ferran Garcia Sevilla.

Sorolla art gallery used to be the home of Spanish painter Joaquin and his family.  The gallery has a large collection of Soralla's works.  You can also find contemporary collections such as sculptures, ceramics, furniture, and jewellery.  This art gallery isn't publicized as much as the others, but Joaquin's art is wonderful.  His paintings focused on the play of light, and he often used sunshine.  He used colour in an original way.  He painted landscapes, social and historical themes, and portraits.  His widow left his works to the people of Spain.  Some of his most famous works at the Sorolla art gallery are Moro con Naranjas 1885, La Fuente, Bunol 1885-90, El Pillo de Playa, 1891, Fuente del Alcazar, Sevilla 1908, and Clotilde con Traje de Noche 1910.
