Old Picture Gallery (Alte Pinakothek)

This gallery is home to the works of many of the European masters of art. It is one of the best picture galleries in the world and certainly one of the largest. There is a lot to see here and the paintings are pieces you will want to see over and over again. Works from artists like Botticelli, Hans Balding-Grien, and Dürer are on display here.

New Picture Gallery (Neue Pinakothek)

Standing just opposing the Alte Pinakothek the New Picture Gallery is a lovely place to be.  Here you will get to see one of the more impressive collections of paintings from the 1700s and the 1800s. There are over 500 pieces on display here. This gallery also features some Art nouveau pieces. Eighteenth and 19th century art lovers are in for a treat when they walk through the doors of this gallery.

Museum of Modern Art (Pinakothek der Moderne)

Located in the city centre the Museum of Modern Art is a part of the art district. It is deemed the largest modern art gallery in the country. It features a stunning architecture of galas and concrete. Its collections cover art works including paintings, photographs, videos, and sculptures. There are also wonderful pieces from the some of the world’s great artists such as Picasso and Andy Warhol.

Hypo Art Hall (Kunsthalle der Hypo Kulturstiftung)

Situated in Munich’s old town, this gallery hosts many of the more popular art exhibitions that are generally rotated frequently. These exhibitions held here feature many modern and traditional art pieces. This is the stop to make to experience art from the old to the new.

State Gallery of Modern Art (Staatsgalerie für Moderne Kunst)

Revered for it exhibitions of contemporary art the State Gallery of Modern Art boasts some of the most impressive collections of painting by some of the more well known artists of the 20th century. This is a great to visit and see contemporary art even if you are not an avid art lover. They also have a wide selection of sculptures and prints.
